Denzel Washington is a highly successful actor and director. In total, he has received three Golden Globes and two Academy Awards, and was the second black man to have ever won an Academy Award for Best Actor.
Early on he starred in films such as Carbon Copy, Cry Freedom, Glory, and For Queen and Country, however, it was his role in the 1992 film Malcolm X, that transformed him into one of the most respected and successful actors of the time, and saw him earn his first Oscar nomination.
Throughout the 90s, Denzel starred in various successful films across a range of genres, such as Philadelphia, The Pelican Brief, Crimson Tide, Much Ado About Nothing, The Preacher’s Wife, Courage Under Fire, and Virtuosity. He also starred in The Siege and The Bone Collector in 1998, both with were highly acclaimed. In 1999, Denzel starred in the film The Hurricane, which was based on the life of boxer Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter.
One of Denzel’s biggest box office hits was Remember the Titans, which over $100million at the box office. Following the success of that film, Denzel won an Oscar for Best Actor for his next movie Training Day. He starred in a spout of thrillers from 2003 – 2007, these included Out of Time, Man on Fire, The Manchurian Candidate, Inside Man, Déjà vu, and American Gangster.
In 1983, Denzel Washington married actress Paulette Pearson, now Paulette Washington. They met on the set of his first film Wilma, and have been together since. They pair are parents to four children – John David, Katia, and twins Olivia and Malcolm.
