Jude Law was born on 29 December 1972, in Lewisham, London. He began acting with the National Youth Music Theatre in 1987, and had his first TV role in 1989, which was based on the Beatrix Potter children's book, The Tailor of Gloucester. Law played several minor roles on British television, before getting his breakthrough role in Shopping, featuring Sadie Frost – whom he later went on to marry.
It was not until his role in the Oscar Wilde biopic Wilde in 1997, that he became more widely known, and the role earned him the Evening Standard British Film Award as "Most Promising Newcomer".
Jude Law was on the Top Ten list of most bankable Hollywood stars in 2006, having performed in films including Gattaca, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil, and Road to Perdition. In 1999, Law starred in The Talented Mr Riply, for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
One of Law’s cheekier films was Alfie, in which he portrayed charismatic, bed-hopping, Cockney who resides in Manhattan and funds his hedonistic lifestyle by working as a driver for the local limousine service. The film turned out to be a flop, receiving poor reviews and was a financial failure at the box office.
Jude Law’s personal life has received a lot of media attention. He married Sadie Frost in 1997, whom he met on the set of Shopping. Together they had three children, Rafferty, Iris, and Rudy, and Sadie also had a child from a previous marriage who Law was Stepfather to – Finlay Munro. Sadie and Jude divorced in 2003. Law was then involved with Sienna Miller who he was engaged to from 2004 – 2006. However, the pair split after Jude allegedly slept with his children’s nanny.
