Keith Urban’s music career started at a very young age. He was born in Whangarei, New Zealand, in 1967, and developed an interest for music at the age of seven. He was winning singing contests when he was just eight years old; it was clear he was born to be a singer.

In 1990, Urban scored a contract with EMI, and signed with them in Australia, recording his first album here which included four #1 hits. In 1992, Urban moved to Nashville, Tennessee, to further pursue his country music career. It was hear that he developed a cocaine addiction. Urban became a frequent user, until he hit rock bottom in 1998 and checked himself into rehab at Cumberland Heights.

By 1999, Urban was clean and released a new album that won him an Academy of Country Music award for Top New Male Vocalist in 2001, as well as a Country Music Association’s Horizon Award. This signalled a new start for Urban, and with the release of another album Golden Road in 2002, he had begun to make a real name for himself in the music industry. CMT Channel then signed up as a sponsor of his first headlining tour, he performed at the Live 8 concert in 2005, and later that same year he was named the CMA’S Entertainer of the Year.

Urban has won two Grammy’s throughout his career, and has had a total of eight #1 singles on the US country charts. He formerly dated Laura Sigler. The pair met in 1992, and dated for eight years. Urban had even proposed to Sigler in 2001, however the union did not last and the split in 2002 before they ever got married. From 2002 – 2004, he maintained and on-again-off-again relationship with supermodel Niki Taylor, but in January 2005 he met Australian actress Nicole Kidman at G’Day LA (a Hollywood event), and they have been together since. They were married in June 2006, and shortly after Urban checked into rehab again following a relapse. By January 2008, his rehab was complete and later that month the couple announced that they were expecting a baby.

Their daughter, Sunday Rose, was born July 7, 2008.
